I asked on Instagram the other day what makes you pick a photographer, or what do you look for in a photographer. The majority of the responses was style! And I think that is definitely very important. Because if you don’t like the style of their photography, chances are you won’t like your pictures.
Style can mean so many things.
Do you like their editing style?
On my contact form on my website here, https://www.calliehurstphotography.com/contact, everyone seems to answer my “what attracts you to my style of photography” with “it’s so light and airy.” Which is true. I do love LIGHT colors and always suggest that my clients stick to neutral and light tones when choosing outfits. And most of my dresses and clothing items I have for clients to borrow stick to those tones as well. I think those colors photograph the best. There are no funny color cast from bright and bold colors, and it just simple. And I also think that neutrals are timeless. Something that you can have displayed in your home for many many years and it not look dated. But that is just MY opinion, you might like something totally different and that is A-OK!
Do you like their shooting style?
I think I take a good combination of posed photos and authentic photos. I like for my photos, even my newborns, to look natural and not too posey. So stick with loose posing and then just kind of go from there.
So when you’re looking for a photographer. Just remember, do you like the pictures they take? Do you like how they edit them? Dig though their website and their instagram. Check out their blog. If you LOVE their pictures and are drawn to their work, then you might have a winner!!
